Required Core Competencies for All Volunteers:

 

  • Adheres and Advocates for the AHIMA code of ethics, and any other appropriate codes of conduct, values honesty, integrity and transparency.
  • Demonstrates Commitment to the mission, vision, values & strategy of the entity (AHIMA, AHIMA Foundation, CAHIIM, COC, and/or CSA)
  • Is a Team Player/Collaborator, works well on teams and fosters trust among group members and adjusts behavior in order to establish relationships with team.  Completes assigned duties and tasks. 
  • Respects Diversity and Fosters Inclusion, values all kinds and classes of people equitably, deals effectively with all races, cultures, disabilities, ages and genders.  Ensures all voices are listened to and respected. Will wait for others to catch up before acting and is sensitive to due process and proper pacing.
  • Presents a Positive Professional Image.

Volunteer opportunities are listed in the following 2 categories:

  1. AHIMA Appointed Groups
    1. Various AHIMA Committees, Task Forces, Practice Councils and e-HIM Workgroups.
  2. AHIMA Elected Groups
    1. Board of Directors (President-elect and Directors positions)
    2. Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (Associate Baccalaureate & Master's Degree HIM Program positions)
    3. Commission on Certification of Health Informatics and Information Management Professionals (HIT Educator & RHIA Professional positions)

The American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) strives to reflect in its membership and leadership the diversity within the United States, including race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, special needs, and other diverse populations.  The Association encourages the celebration and promotion of diversity through education, mentoring, recognition, leadership, and other programs.
