President
Vera Rulon, MS, RHIT, CCS, FAHIMA, is director of business operations and communications for Pfizer, Inc. She is the recipient of the Visionary FORE Triumph Award and Best Practices Award. Rulon has served on AHIMA’s Board of Directors and is a member of the FORE Research Committee.

Past President

Wendy Mangin, MS, RHIA, is the director of medical records at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, IN. Mangin has served on AHIMA's FORE Board and Legislative Committee and has twice received the Indiana HIMA's Distinguished Member Award, in 2000 and 2006.

President-elect
Rita Bowen, MA, RHIA, CHPS, is enterprise director of HIM services at Erlanger in Chattanooga, TN. She served on the AHIMA board of directors since 2006 and served three years (2003-2005) on on the Council on Certification and the CCHIT security and reliability work group. She frequently speaks on the subjects of privacy, revenue cycle impact, and enterprise structure for eHIM.


Linda L. Kloss, RHIA, CAE, FAHIMA, is AHIMA's chief executive officer, a position she has held since 1995. Before joining the AHIMA staff, Kloss served as a senior manager for Massachusetts-based MediQual Systems, Inc. and for Chicago-based InterQual, Inc. Kloss served on the AHIMA Board of Directors from 1980 to 1986 and was president in 1985

Third-year Directors

Mary Beth McCoy Haugen, MS, RHIA, is president of Haugen Consulting Group in Denver, CO. She was previously director of HIM and information services at Denver Health. Haugen has served as Colorado HIMA as delegate, treasurer, program chair, and nominating committee chair.


Patricia Shaw, MEd, RHIA, FAHIMA, is associate professor and program director for the HIM program at Weber State University in Ogden, UT. She has served as chair of AHIMA’s Council on Certification and the program committee for the AHIMA Assembly on Education’s summer symposium.


Patty T. Sheridan, MBA, RHIA, is president of Care Communications, Inc., in Chicago. Sheridan served as president of the New York HIMA and has served on AHIMA’s Organizational Structure task force, e-health task force, and two work groups.

Second-year Directors

Mark Dietz, RHIA, is a national healthcare management consultant and was formerly principal of healthcare consulting for Deloitte & Touche. He currently serves as vice chair of FORE’s Board of Directors. Dietz received the Minnesota HIMA’s Distinguished Member Award in 2004.


Mary G. Reeves, RHIA, is director of medical information services at Vanderbilt University Hospital and Vanderbilt Children's Hospital in Nashville, TN. She received AHIMA’s 2006 e-HIM® FORE Triumph Award. Reeves served two terms as president of the Tennessee HIMA.


Renae Spohn, MBA, RHIA, CPHQ, FAHIMA, FNAHQ, is director of clinical applications at the Evangelical Lutheran Good Samaritan Society in Salem, SD. Spohn has worked in quality for 10 years. Prior to that, she served as an HIM consultant for the society, serving over 100 sites and working closely with clinical software.

First-year Directors

Diann Brown, MS, RHIA, CHP, is director of health information services at Harris Methodist Fort Worth Hospital in Fort Worth, TX. Brown has served as chair of AHIMA’s Professional Resource Task Force and as a member of the IFHRO Convention Planning Committee. She served as president of the Texas HIMA and is a published author and speaker on diverse HIM topics.


Beth Haenke Just, MBA, RHIA, is CEO and president of Just Associates, a healthcare consulting company focused on patient identity and electronic linking of medical records. Just has served as president of the Colorado HIMA and and received its Distinguished Member Award. She is currently cochair of the HIE Practice Council.


Valerie J.M. Watzlaf, PhD, RHIA, FAHIMA, is an associate professor within the Department of HIM at the University of Pittsburgh. She has been chair of AHIMA’s Coding, Policy, and Strategy Committee, the Research Committee, and the Council on Accreditation. Watzlaf has published extensively in the field of HIM and is the recipient AHIMA’s Research Award.
